Museum Pays $300,000 For World’s Oldest Hockey Stick

Yahoo News Digest reports that the Canadian Museum of History has paid $300,000 for a hockey stick believed to be used almost 200 years ago.

3 Questions That Arise From This Story

1. So the rarest item in hockey history is worth about as much as six 1979 Wayne Gretzky O-Pee-Chee cards? You can’t even play hockey with the cards. The most you could do with them is place them in your bicycle spokes, or trade them away for Hartford Whaler team logos. Which you probably did, and probably regret now that you know they may be worth $50,000, according to the Bleacher Report.

2. What kind of name is the “Museum of History?” Seems kind of vague to us. Also, is there really any other kind of museum? Let us know if you’ve been to the “Museum of Dinosaur Bones and Art From the Future” in the comments below.

3. Are you still depressed that you lost your Wayne Gretzky rookie cards? Cheer up. If the NHL ever expands, maybe Hartford will get a team, and your Whaler logos can be traded for some 1979 Quebec Nordiques logos. C’est magnifique, non?
